The Losses One Still Carries

I always envy children smiling past me,

Their innocence is truly a luxury.

Their ignorance still keeping them in a dream-like bliss.

They don’t see the world for its horrors

but for its possibilities.

Possibilities that bring light and beauty

to an all too dark and cold cosmos.

While the rest of us suffer

As we are slowly corrupted by misfortunes

life throws at us

at the most unexpected times.
